Last lesson we began to investigate differing models of land use in cities, as well as important terminology to do with the development of cities. Today, you will be required to play the part of town planner.
Your Task
The following Urban Planning Game allows you to slowly create your own city whilst attempting to solve some of the town planning issues such as supply of water, housing, reduction of crime etc. You need to play the urban planning game a number of times to create the following types of cities.
- A city that displays the concentric zone theory
- A city that displays poor planning in terms of the location of factories and residential areas
- A green city
Once you have finished the city, take a screen capture. The three cities you create need to then be put into a keynote or imovie, and the following questions about each city need to be answered.
1. Describe how your city meets the characteristics for each of the cities outlined above. Mention land use and other characteristics.
2. What type of comments did you receive from the game? Were they mainly positive and negative for each of the cities you created?
3. Reflect on how well you could put together a city. Would it be impossible to plan the ‘perfect city’?
You will need to studywiz me your answers to the questions, as this is an S/N task.
